Generator DEF Delete Emulator – AdBlue Solution for Diesel Generators
DEF and AdBlue system failures can bring a diesel generator to a stop at exactly the wrong time. Failed NOx sensors, DEF pumps, dosing units, SCR faults and inducement warnings can all lead to engine derate, shutdowns and expensive downtime.
Our Generator DEF Delete Emulator is designed for selected diesel generator engines fitted with SCR and DEF/AdBlue aftertreatment systems. The emulator communicates electronically with the engine and emissions control system, allowing compatible generators to operate without DEF-related derate and shutdown faults.
This solution is particularly useful for construction sites, quarries, mines, farms, remote installations, industrial sites and export applications where generator downtime can stop an entire operation.
Important: generator specifications vary considerably by engine, emissions standard, year and market. Please contact us with your generator make, model, engine model and serial number so we can confirm compatibility before ordering.
Perkins 1204F Generator DEF Delete
The Perkins 1204F is one of the main engine families we support. Tier 4 Final / Stage IV versions of the 1204F use an advanced emissions system incorporating SCR and Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
Our Perkins solution has been developed around the 1204F engine platform and can provide a practical solution for compatible generator installations suffering from DEF and SCR system problems.
Common Perkins 1204F DEF Problems
- DEF / AdBlue system warning messages
- NOx sensor faults
- DEF dosing system faults
- DEF pump problems
- SCR efficiency faults
- Engine derate caused by emissions faults
- Repeated DEF-related diagnostic codes
- Generator shutdown or reduced-power conditions
If your generator uses a Perkins 1204F Tier 4 Final or Stage IV engine, send us the engine details and photographs of the emissions system or DCU and we can check the application.
Generator Engines We Can Investigate
We have DEF/AdBlue emulator solutions for several engine families used throughout construction and industrial equipment. Some of these engines are also used in power-generation applications.
Generator configurations can differ from mobile machinery, so compatibility must be confirmed for the individual generator.
Perkins Generator Engines
Selected Perkins 1204F Tier 4 Final / Stage IV generator applications are a key focus for this product.
Scania Generator Engines
Scania engines are widely used in industrial and power-generation applications. We have solutions for selected Scania DC9, DC13 and DC16 engine platforms.
Stage V and other SCR-equipped generator versions can use different emissions configurations, so please send us the complete engine identification before ordering.
FPT / Iveco Generator Engines
We also support selected FPT Industrial / Iveco engines equipped with SCR and AdBlue systems. FPT engines are used extensively in industrial and power-generation applications.
Please provide the exact FPT engine code and generator model so that we can determine whether your application matches one of our available solutions.
Isuzu Generator Engines
Our Isuzu emulator technology supports selected applications using engines from the:
- Isuzu 4JJ1 family
- Isuzu 4HK1 family
- Isuzu 6HK1 family
These engines appear in numerous industrial applications, but the emissions configuration varies. We therefore need to confirm the engine, DCU and SCR system before recommending an Isuzu generator solution.
What Does a Generator DEF Delete Emulator Do?
Modern diesel generators can use a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce NOx emissions. Diesel Exhaust Fluid – known as DEF or AdBlue – is injected into the exhaust as part of this process.
The system can involve several components including:
- DEF tank and level sensors
- DEF pump
- Dosing module / injector
- NOx sensors
- Temperature sensors
- SCR catalyst
- Dosing Control Unit (DCU)
- CAN communication with the engine ECU
When one or more of these components fails, the engine management system can generate faults and eventually command a power derate or shutdown condition.
On compatible applications, our emulator communicates with the control system to electronically simulate the required DEF/SCR information and prevent supported DEF-related faults from causing repeated operational problems.
For a more detailed explanation, see our technical guide to how DEF delete emulators work.
Ideal for Remote and Industrial Generator Applications
A DEF failure on an excavator is inconvenient. A DEF failure on a generator supplying power to an entire site can be considerably more disruptive.
Our generator solutions are particularly relevant to equipment operating in demanding environments such as:
- Construction sites
- Quarries and crushing plants
- Mining operations
- Agricultural sites
- Remote industrial installations
- Oilfield operations
- Temporary power installations
- Rental generator fleets
- Export machinery and equipment
Where parts availability is limited, waiting for a replacement NOx sensor, DEF pump or dosing component can result in significant lost operating time.
Common Generator DEF and SCR Faults
If your diesel generator has an SCR system, DEF-related problems can appear in several different ways.
NOx Sensor Failure
NOx sensors operate in an extremely harsh exhaust environment and can eventually fail or produce implausible readings. A NOx-related fault can cause warnings and, depending on the engine calibration, eventual derate.
DEF Pump Failure
The DEF pump must supply the correct pressure to the dosing system. Pump faults, contamination and crystallisation can prevent the system from operating correctly.
DEF Injector and Crystallisation Problems
AdBlue can leave crystalline deposits around the dosing system. Excessive crystallisation can restrict the injector and create dosing or SCR efficiency faults.
We have a separate guide explaining how AdBlue crystals form and how they can be removed.
DEF Level and Quality Faults
Level, temperature and quality monitoring can also generate faults even when DEF is present in the tank.
Engine Derate
One of the most disruptive consequences of an unresolved SCR fault is engine inducement or derate. A generator that can no longer reach its required operating output may effectively become unusable for the application.
DEF Delete Does Not Mean DPF or EGR Delete
It is important to understand that DEF/SCR, DPF and EGR are separate emissions systems.
Our generator DEF emulator is intended to address the DEF/SCR side of compatible applications. It does not automatically remove the DPF or EGR system.
If your generator has a separate DPF or EGR fault, that problem should be diagnosed independently.
Read our guide to the difference between DEF/AdBlue and DPF systems.
Rugged Emulator for Industrial Equipment
Our emulators are designed for demanding machinery environments rather than passenger vehicles. Depending on the application, installation may involve connection to the machine’s CAN communication, power and ground or connection at the relevant emissions control system.
Benefits of our emulator solutions include:
- Designed for heavy-duty industrial applications
- Compact electronic module
- Water-resistant construction
- No ECU remapping on supported emulator applications
- Reversible installation
- 2-year warranty
- Installation instructions supplied
- Technical support available
Not Sure Which Engine Is in Your Generator?
That’s not a problem. Generator manufacturers frequently use different engines within the same model range, and engine specifications can change between emissions standards and markets.
Send us:
- Generator manufacturer
- Generator model
- Year of manufacture
- Engine manufacturer
- Engine model
- Engine serial number
- A photograph of the engine identification plate
- A photograph of the DEF/SCR system or DCU, if accessible
Our team can use this information to determine whether we already have a compatible emulator or whether the application requires further investigation.
